EPSRC CHEMISTRY PROGRAM National Crystallography Service NCS Allocations Guide
Eligibility
The National Crystallography Service is available to those eligible to seek research grant support from the EPSRC Chemistry Programme. A copy of the NCS User Registration Procedure is available and should read before proceeding further.
Requesting NCS Allocations
Calls for the submission of requests for NCS Allocations are normally issued once a year around December / January to Heads of Chemistry and Subject-related Departments with a closing date usually around mid February. Applications are considered by the EPSRC Chemistry Program Service Management Panel following which approved allocations are normally announced by the end of March.
The standard procedure is to award running allocations valid for a period of one year. For potential users who find an urgent need for access to the NCS in mid-session a fast-track mid-term procedure is available whereby a small allocation may be made for the specified project. Users with such an allocation will remain on the database for the rest of the allocation year and will receive user circulars including a reminder for renewal of allocations near the end of the allocation year.
Application Procedure
In order to complete the online form you will need to provide:
A Scientific Programme outlining the objectives of your research project, the need for X-ray diffraction support and identifying the extent and scope of any funding you receive to support this research.
A short report summarising the contribution that any previous NCS Allocations have made to your research.
A detailed list of publications or similar output arising from any such previous NCS Allocations.
The Scientific Programme:
Outline the scientific objectives of your research project, the need for X-ray diffraction support and identify the extent and scope of any funding received to support your research.
The information must be adequate and sufficiently self-contained for assessment of the scientific merit of the proposed programme.
References to relevant publication should be included where appropriate and industrial collaboration or support should be specified.
The case for support should not exceed 2 sides of A4, relevant references should be listed in addition to this.
Applicants should note that all proposals will be assessed by the Service Management Panel who have been asked to consider how the work fits in with the overall objectives of the EPSRC Chemistry Programme.
Upon completion of the webform a confirmation e-mail will be sent summarising the application. The application and associated documents will then be forwarded to the Service Management Panel for consideration.
